Our community includes a wide range of independent students studying for an academic award. Many choose Emmanuel because they want to study in a context where Christian faith experience is honoured whilst deep questions of life and faith are scrupulously explored.
We aim to equip students with the values, skills, and intellectual capacity to benefit society today by building meaningful connections between Christian faith and twenty-first century life and culture.
As of May 2025, Emmanuel Theological College is registered with the Office for Students, so our independent students can apply for government funding (see the news item entitled OFS Registration).
We offer undergraduate programmes for independent students that are available both full-time and part-time. All our undergraduate programmes are validated through our partnership with Durham University Common Awards.
To find out the entry requirements for all undergraduate programmes, view our Admission Policy HERE.
All of our undergraduate programme modules are assessed by 100% coursework. We use a rich array of different assessment types including oral presentations, essays, resources for others, portfolios, group work, theological reflection, gobbets, visit reports, projects and reports. Our assessments are designed to help you love God with ‘all of your mind’ (Matthew 22:37) as they equip you with subject specific skills and knowledge for Christian ministry and mission, and key skills which can be applied in a range of workplace settings and careers.
